The PG Group is bringing forward exciting plans for 219 high-quality and low-carbon build-to-rent homes which will transform a brownfield site on Sheene Way in Bedminster.

Working with registered providers of social housing, a quarter of these new homes will be affordable, helping to address the housing crisis in Bristol while delivering wider benefits for the local community. 

Our vision

Our vision is to provide much-needed build-to-rent homes in a sustainable location, which can act as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of Bedminster. 

With an estimated £8.5 million per year local spend generated by the new residents, our project will breathe new life
into East Street and support North Street and West Street to thrive.

The scheme includes a robust commitment to low-carbon technology, harnessing the future Bristol District Heat Network. Solar panels and air source heat pumps are seamlessly integrated into the buildings, minimising the site’s carbon footprint.

Following a period of consultation with the local community in 2022 which led to changes to our designs, we have now submitted proposals to Bristol City Council (planning reference 23/02637/F).

Our consultation

As part of our consultation on our proposals, we hosted an in-person event at the Bedminster Methodist Church, British Road, BS3 3BW on Tuesday 26 July 2022. Here, we introduced the team, shared our proposals, and allowed local people to provide feedback and have their questions answered. The public were invited to comment on two options for the design and layout of the site.

The second community engagement event took place on Tuesday 22 November 2022 to present the scheme preferred by the public during the first engagement event and in comments received on our consultation website.

In response to this valuable feedback, homes have been redistributed across the scheme, resulting in the reduction of the tallest block to eleven storeys. This ensures that the proposals remain considerate of the views from neighbouring homes and consistent with the character of the area.

The site

The site is located on Sheene Way, near Malago Road, Bedminster. It is a dilapidated brownfield site which was previously the site of the Selco builders’ merchants.

Benefitting from excellent public transport connections, the site is within walking distance of key bus routes and rail stations (Bedminster 650m, Parsons Steet 1.1km, Bristol Temple Meads 2.3km). With many shops and local amenities nearby on East Street and West Street, residents will have easy access to a city centre lifestyle.
